INTRODUCTION - The natural populations of lions have been declining in recent decades due to anthropic pressure, requiring population management under human care. Such actions are only acceptable given animal welfare aspects. OBJECTIVE - To evaluate whether the increase in the number of people visiting the zoo negatively influences the welfare of Angolan lions through individual behavioral analyzes and fecal glucocorticoid metabolites (FGM). METHODS - Pomerode Zoo is home to four males Angolan lion, four to five years old. It has a preventive medicine, nutrition and wellness program. The evaluations were carried out between june 06, 2019 to july 05, 2019. Fecal samples were collected individually in the morning and deferred by seed intake by the animals and stored at -20 ° C until sent to the Laboratory of Hormonal Dosages of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of São Paulo, and subsequently processed by radioimmunoassay. Validation of the exams was obtained through challenge with adrenocorticotropic hormone. Etograms were performed by scanning method every 1 minute for two hours in the morning and in the afternoon. The number of visitors was obtained from the administrative sector. RESULTS - The use of pumpkin, corn, sunflower and soybean seeds was effective for the individualization of animal feces. The visitation ranged from 50 to 1927 people during the evaluation period. The results of the etograms and FGM follow in analysis. CONCLUSIONS - The results of the collections are expected to end the experiment.
