RESUMO:

Babesiosis and bovine anaplasmosis have a major impact on cattle production (meat and milk) despite the knowledge of the pathophysiology of the disease and the control and treatment methods. Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Colombia are the largest beef producers in Latin America, and despite differences in climate, herd and management, several outbreaks are still reported. Due the lack of current epidemiologic data, the systematic reunion of evidence may contribute towards the development of more effective control strategies. The present study aims to estimate the prevalence of babesiosis and anaplasmosis and the associated risk factors in the cattle of Latin America through a systematic literature review and meta-analysis of observational studies, epidemiologically characterizing these diseases in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Mexico, and Colombia and identifying the relationship between climate, herd, age, sex on prevalence data. A quantitative systematic review of the literature was done, using keywords that identifiy population (“cattle OR” bovine OR “dairy” OR “dairy” or its variants), intervention (“babesi *” OR “anaplasm*” AND “ tick ”and the countries evaluated) and results (“prevalence ”OR“ epidemiolog * OR “risk factor”) on five different databases (Science Direct, Scopus, Scielo, PubMed and ISI Web of Science) using EndNote Web. It was retrieved 176 records, published between 1973 to 2019, which were subjected to peer review if they included positive responses to the presence of pre-established inclusion criteria. Thus, 100 of which were selected for full text reading. Positivity estimated for Babesia bovis, Babesia bigemina and Anaplasma marginale will be calculated from the study samples (presented as event rate and 95% credible intervals - CI), where prevalence will be calculated from the weighted average of the statistics presented. It is expected to use the random effects model, depending on the results of the heterogeneity tests (Cochrane test and I2), to calculate relative risk related to each study. A forest plot model graph will be designed. p <0.05 will be considered statistically significant.
