RESUMO:

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of blood mineral concentration and acute phase protein activity in the cow on the transfer of passive immunity to the calf. The experiment was conducted out in a dairy farm in the western region of Santa Catarina. Twenty-one multiparous dairy cows of the Holstein breed were calved and non-twin. The animals were followed pre and postpartum in July, August and September 2019. All cows were kept in a confined system (Compost Barn) with the same type of diet, management and body condition score (ECC) average prepartum of 3.3 (± 0.4). Blood and urine were collected from the cows on the -20, -5 days of the expected calving date, and one day postpartum blood only. The calves were collected at 24 hours after supply colostrum. Colostrum analysis was performed at the time of the first milking by refractometer (Brix®) to estimate the amount of immunoglobulin G (IgG). Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), unesterified fatty acid (NEFA), beta hydroxybutyrate (BHBA), paraoxonase and albumin will be analyzed in the blood serum of cows. In calves: paraoxonase, albumin, total plasma protein (PPT), gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT), Ca and Mg at the time of colostration, seven calves received after 2h postpartum and were categorized as group one (mean 7.85h ± 2.2), with mean brix of 9.04% (± 1.43) and PPT 7, 44mg / dL (± 0.90). Group two, consisting of eleven calves, received colostrum within 2 hours postpartum, which obtained an average of 1.11h (± 0.31), with an average brix of 10.15% (± 0.84) and PPT 7.62mg / dL (± 0.76), three heifers were disregarded this data, because the moment of colostration was not identified. Regarding urinary pH, 12 cows presented pH above 6.5 in the pre-partum collection, with an average 7.3 (± 0.48), and their offspring had an average brix of 9.5% (± 1.29). ) and PPT 7.54mg / dL (± 0.80). The other nine cows had a pH below 6.5, with a mean 5.52 (± 0.29), and their calves contained an average brix of 9.7% (± 0.96) and PPT 7.45mg / dL (± 0.82). So far only a descriptive analysis of the data has been performed. The next steps of the experiment include finalizing the laboratory analysis and performing statistical analysis taking into account the mineral profile of the cows prepartum.
