RESUMO:

Pig-producing is an activity that has been developing significantly in recent decades worldwide due to the growing demand for food of animal origin. In Brazil's modern swine production system, the Genetic Transfer Centers (GTC) are the breeding grounds for male semen doses to cater to the sows of nucleus herd, multipliers and commercial farms. The quality of the inseminating dose (ID) used can affect the production chain, as it has a strong impact on reproductive rates and may compromise business profitability. The objective of this work was to evaluate the processes of collection and manipulation of ejaculate in swine GTC with potential impact on sperm and microbiological quality of ID. Twelve boar studs distributed in the states of RS, SC, PR, MS and MT were evaluated, totaling about 1,500 boars in the total squad (around 25% of boars in the Brazilian squad in production). All units had the same computer semen analysis system (CASA; Magavision®Magapor®, Spain) in use for more than 12 months, calibrated to the supplier's standard, always by the same employee. Quantitative and qualitative data of semen production histories of the units were evaluated, based on two years of production, from August 2017 to July 2019, together with the sample evaluation of microbiology exams of the main production critical points, sperm concentration of ID and conference of the whole semen production process through check list. Benchmarking of the evaluated GTCs will be performed in order to establish a ranking for production indicators and quality of the doses produced. The hypothesis is that the boar studs with better process standardization have better quality of the produced DIs. Data collection is expected to be completed in December 2019.
