RESUMO:

The termination of feedlot cattle in Brazil has evolved a lot in quantitative and
qualitative terms, increasing its technological degree in recent times, with a significant
advance in nutrition, food management, facilities and property management.
Investments in research for the development of new technologies are becoming
increasingly important, raising productivity increases, proving to be the best way to
remedy the productive deficiencies of beef cattle in Brazil. Aiming at developing
technological tools that bring greater convenience and precision to the rancher, as well
as the analysis of the financial efficiency of the property, the present work aimed to
develop an application to estimate the live weight of confined beef cattle, as well as, the
evaluation of productivity and financial viability of feedlot with the use of high grain feed
in the diet of animals. The experiment was carried out in the Caldart Family farm,
located on Linha Seis, Barão de Cotegipe - RS. A batch of 14 bullfighting animals and
their crosses with an average weight of 310 kilograms was divided into two groups of
seven males and seven females, kept in stalls separated by sex. The experimental
period was 63 days, being performed three managements (01/09, 06/10 and
03/11/2019) where were collected the images and weighing for further processing of the
data. Feeding the diet consisting of corn grain and high grain feed to the animals, with a
consumption of 4,550 kilograms for males and 4,050 kilograms for females throughout
the experiment, being given twice a day (early morning and late weighing and mixing
the ingredients, also provided to each animal category, keeping a record of the diet
consumed. The animals were transported to a second partner property, where weighing
was carried out, eight kilometers away, containing an individual weighing scale and
appropriate animal handling facilities. Animal welfare techniques were used for such
management. aiming at the least possible stress on animals. The images were capturedusing a 10 megapixel Nikon Coolpix S220 camera approximately three meters away
from each animal, based on a previously measured hose wall. The information collected
feeds the database, which serves as the basis of information made available to the
user. As a preliminary result, by using the ImageJ program it was possible to estimate
the body area of each animal and thus correlate with the weight. Estimation of the live
weight of beef cattle by body area measured from the photographic image proved to be
efficient. As for the economic analysis still requires the processing and interpretation of
the values for later conclusion.
