RESUMO:

The Brazilian production of poultry meat reached the point of 13,05 million tons in
2017, destinating 33,1% to exportation and 66,9% to the intern market. The state of
Santa Catarina became responsible for about 16,21% of the national slaughter of
poultry, and 23% of the national poultry exportations, its technological excellence in
genetics and handling are the main factors of success in the state aviculture. However,
the aviculture performance cannot be considered absolute, taking into account the
existence of diseases that trigger financial losses on a big scale. One of these diseases
is the poultry cellulite, a dermal disease that is related to a high index of partial and total
condemnation in the slaughterhouse, having as the principal etiological agent the
bacteria Escherichia coli. Due to this, concerns may arise regarding its ability to
disseminate in organs, like the liver, as the primary inspection is made only
macroscopically, and in many infected organs, macroscopical alteration have not being
presented. The strains of avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC) are sorted as extraintestinal
(ExPEC) and present similarities with humans strains implying a zoonotic potential,
having the ability to migrate to extraintestinal sites and involving many virulence factors
into action, among than protectin (iss) and the fimbria (felA). The bacterial isolation and
the molecular detection of the virulence factors aim to confirm E. coli as the main causeof injury and relate it to cases of septicemia caused by the avian cellulite. Had analyzed
130 pieces of skin and livers coming from the slaughterhouse under federal inspection
in the west of Santa Catarina, had been used to diagnose means of sorting and
confirmatory biochemical tests, obtaining the prevalence of 50% in the skin, 54% in the
liver and 46,2% in both. Still being needed to perform the molecular detection in the
positive samples in order to identify the virulence factors and evaluate the pathogenic
potential of isolates, as well as the septic characteristic of the disease.
