RESUMO:

Bovine anaplasmosis is a disease that has a great impact on dairy farming in Brazil due to the numerous damages caused by the disease that causes fever, hemolytic anemia, jaundice, anorexia, tachycardia, dyspnea, weight loss, abortion and death. Accurate diagnosis and efficient antimicrobial therapy become of paramount importance to mitigate losses and losses. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of oxytetracycline of long acting in relation to fast acting oxytetracycline for the treatment of the disease. Twenty-two dairy cattle with clinical signs consistent with the disease were evaluated, the animals were submitted to the different treatments at random, blood samples were collected before the start of the treatment and in the next 4 days for blood smear preparation and microhematocrit to confirm the diagnosis, determine the parasitemia and measure the hematocrit. The results obtained demonstrate that both protocols were effective in combating the parasite; however, fast-acting oxytetracycline was shown to be superior by decreasing parasitaemia in a shorter period of time and by better hematocrit maintenance.
