INTRODUCTION - World poultry farming is being challenged to produce broiler with a reduction in the use of antimicrobials, maintaining the productivity and competitiveness already achieved, and reusing the poultry litter an important tool for this future. OBJECTIVE - To evaluate the bacterial and parasitic load of reused litters in Dark House and Conventional aviaries, and to compare the two litter treatments in the sanitary interval: with virgin lime 0.5 kg / m² for 5 days; and fermentation with stretched canvas (for 7 days) followed by virgin lime. METODOLOGY - Samples of faeces and litter were collected 1 to 2 days preceding to slaughter, and litters were collected 5 days after application of lime. Enterobacteria and Clostridium perfringens were counted from litter resuspension in sterile PBS (1:10), serial dilution and plating in Mac Conkey and SPS Agar, respectively. In addition, total oocysts of Eimeria spp. were calculated by eggs per gram (EPG) of fresh faeces and reused litter, from dilution of the samples in hypersaturated saline and counting in Mac Master chamber. To date, 22 samples have been collected. RESULTS - The count of C. perfringes for Dark House and lime had an increase of 0.42 log 10, Dark House and fermentation followed by lime obtained reduction of 0.47 log 10, conventional and lime an increase of 0.29 log 10 and conventional and fermentation followed by lime reduction of 1.52 log 10. In relation to oocysts, high values of EPG were observed in faeces in both the conventional (mean of 4,625 EPG) and Dark House (mean of 3,038 EPG), which demonstrates the occurrence of the agent in the birds, however, all groups had low values of oocysts in litter, both before and after treatment in litter. The results of Enterobacteria have not yet been compiled, and all the results have not been analyzed statistically.
