RESUMO:

Considering the climatic characteristics of Brazil, being predominantly hot, thermal stress is an expressive factor in milk cattle, leading to significant economic losses, simultaneously with the decrease of animal welfare. In view of this, there is a growing need for active principles from natural sources that reduces the thermal stress of dairy cows, leading to the impairment of  negative energetic balance. In view of this need, the aim of this study is to evaluate the response of dairy cows exposed to the high temperatures in the recent postpartum period to the commercial herbal product Axion Thermoplus. Thirty bovines of up to 150 days of lactation will be evaluated, being 15 of the control group and 15 of the treatment, submitted to isoenergetic and isoproteic diet and maintained in a free stall system. The animals will go through a nutritional adjustment period of 15 days. The treatment group will be supplemented with 100 grams of the nutritional additive, offered individually 2 times a day. The blood and milk samples will be started on the day of the beginning of the additive's offer and after the adaptation period, 15, 0, 15, 30, 45 and 60 days for blood collection and for milk composition and somatic cell counting (SCC). The data of ambient temperature and relative humidity will be recorded from 5 to 18 h, every 30 minutes, using digital Thermohygrometer inside the facilities. Twice daily heart rate, respiratory rate and rectal temperature of each cow on collection days. Glucose, albumin, total proteins, urea, calcium, magnesium, GGT, AST, NEFA, haptoglobin, paraoxanase and BHBA will be quantified. Positive results are expected on the tested product, demonstrating its effect on the control of the thermal stress of lactating cows, providing the metabolic balance and, consequently, favoring animal welfare and subsequently improving the economic results for the producers.
