The lack of clarification of abortions and the excessive fertilization of swine manure are an important reality in the Midwest. Since the large number of pigs generates a problem regarding their waste. As a way to eliminate this problem and try to increase the volume of animal feed, the farmer manages the pastures excessively and generates problems. Clinical cases of bovine intoxication have been reported for a few years. This study aims to elucidate the gap between the occurrence of abortion in the initial third of gestation by experimental subclinical intoxication by exogenous nitrate in dairy cattle of the Dutch breed. Subclinical doses of nitrate and nitrite ingested by bovine females may be related to inadequate feeding from contaminated pastures and water and even to nutritional supplements such as nonprotein nitrogen supplied in feed. It is intended to administer two bovine females with approximately 3 months of gestation in the same grazing property. One of them provided calcium nitrate simulating subclinical intoxication (treatment group) and the other only limestone (control group). Five replicates will be done on different properties. During a period of 20 days, the animals will be evaluated with daily blood samples and daily clinical evaluations. Methemoglobin doses will be checked twice a day. Afterwards the results will be statistically evaluated.
