In the swine respiratory disease complex, influenza A virus (IAV) plays an important role acting as the primary and immunosuppressive agent. In Brazil there are few studies related to the characterization of this agent. The objective of this work was to detect and characterize the viral isolates in the pigs of a traditional agroindustry from the middle of the state of Santa Catarina. A total of 423 samples of serum and suab nasal from pigs from 11 farms of the cradle production modality were used. Serum samples were tested by indirect elisa and hemaglutination inhibition (HI) and the nasal samples were submitted to real-time polymerase chain reaction (rtPCR) and viral isolation. In rtPCR, 11 farms (100%) were positive for influenza A. This study confirms the circulation of BTI in pigs in the State of Santa Catarina.
