Reproductive efficiency is one of the main factors involved in the economic viability of the cattle raising sector. Reproduction problems have a significant impact on dairy production, number of calves born per year, interval between generations and, consequently, on the profitability of the farm (GROOMS, 2010). The incidence of metritis ranges from 10 to 20%, of clinical endometritis is approximately 15%, and subclinical endometritis of 15% (BAINY apud LEBLANC et al., 2011).  This work aims to perform the diagnosis of subclinical endometritis in dairy cows in the Alto Uruguai Catarinense and evaluate the effect on design rate in the first service in inseminated animals. The diagnosis of endometritis can be made on clinical examination by observing the presence of vaginal discharge, rectal palpation and vaginoscopy, which guide the majority of cow treatments in the field (THOMÉ apud GILBERT et al., 2005). On the other hand, it is not always possible to diagnose, by these assessments, less intense inflammatory responses - sometimes called subclinical - but which interfere with fertility. For a consistent and reliable diagnosis, more specific tests are required (THOMÉ et al., 2013). The experiment will be developed in commercial dairy farms. Dairy cows will be used, Holsteins, between 4 and 7 weeks postpartum that are empty. The body condition score (ECC) will be evaluated. Ultrasonography will also be performed. Fifty animals will be used. The animals will be evaluated by the Metricheck® equipment, and then of the technique of cytology and uterine biopsy, besides collection of material for culture and antibiogram.
