SYNCHRONIZATION OF ESTRUS IN SOWS WITH USE OF ALTRENOGEST AND MEDROXYPROGESTERONE ACETATE (MPA)
SOWS, ESTRUS, SYNCHRONIZATION, PROGESTAGEN
The utilization of exogenous hormones in reproductive protocols has been used in sows, which leads to a search for new technologies that will lead to more productive results in swine production. The use of altrenogest, provided orally is one of the forms for estrus synchronization in the sows, being able to be associated with use of other hormones depending on the protocol. Another alternative for the use altrenogest is the prevention of early partutition. The medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) is a technology that has recently been studied as an alternative to the use of altrenogest, since its application is through intravaginal devices (IVD). Studies have shown good results for MPA in estrus synchronization and, like altrenogest, in delaying early parition. The use of protocols in estrus synchronization may be associated with artificial inseminations, especially fixed time artificial insemination (FTAI), which is a technology being investigated for scaling in the swine production system.
