RESUMO:

The objective of the present work is to analyze effective and biocompatible methods of conservation of umbilical cords collected from neonatal piglets by evaluating the microbiological contamination of the samples and the preservation of the histological characteristics, searching for easily accessible and low cost substances to be used in surgical routines. In a more detailed way, we sought to investigate the bactericidal potential of bioconservantes in a short time, seeing a better sterile effect of the conserved pieces, with the last consequence a better acceptance in its implantation. We also sought to make a histological analysis, in order to evaluate the maintenance of the characteristics of the tissue architecture, visualizing the stability of its original aspects after a certain period of conservation in biocompatible solutions.  And to test the effectiveness of the preservative Chlorhexidine 1%, compared to the results obtained with glycerin, considered a control substance in the study area.
