RESUMO:

The research project aims to study the genetic diversity of Salmonella Gallinarum (SG) from cases of avian typhus in Santa Catarina, searching through a molecular biology technique, to identify similarity or dissimilarity between strains isolated from foci. The information may allow the Official Veterinary Service of Santa Catarina to carry out an epidemiological investigation of these outbreaks, which may lead to the conclusion that they have a common origin. The overall objective of the research project is to analyze the genetic profiles of S.G. of the cases of Fowl Typhoid (FT) occurred in Santa Catarina (SC) between 2012 and 2016. The specific objectives are: to identify the genotypes and verify the similarity between them through Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis (PFGE) and contribute, from of the results obtained in the work, with information about this bacterium obtaining data to increase the preventive measures and identification of possible risk factors that may be associated. What is expected is that the analysis of the genetic variability between strains of SG of the outbreaks of  in Santa Catarina through the Electrophoresis in Gel of Pulsed Field will allow to verify if the strains of SG isolated from outbreaks of FT in Santa Catarina have correlation between itself, being an indispensable tool in the epidemiological investigation of the foci of the disease. This will make it possible for the Official Veterinary Service of the State of Santa Catarina to draw up a strategy to mitigate the risk of dissemination of the agent that causes avian typhus through active and passive surveillance and promotion of biosecurity measures that can be taken in the shortest possible time.
