TITLE:

Clinical and hematological aspects in the diagnosis of Babesia canis vogeli and Rangelia vitalii in dogs from the west region of Santa Catarina.

KEY WORDS:

Hemoparasitoses, Nambyuvú, Rangeliosis, Babesiosis, PCR.

PAGES: 45
BIG AREA: Ciências Agrárias
AREA: Medicina Veterinária
SUMMARY:

Diseases transmitted by vectors are emerging in all regions of the world. Rangeliosis is considered endemic in dogs in the southern region of Brazil, and when there is suspicion of hemoparasitosis, parasites are often difficult to differentiate due to causing similar clinical symptoms. In order to detect the presence of the parasites Rangelia vitalii and Babesia canis vogeli and characterize the species using molecular techniques, blood samples will be collected from a population of 50 dogs with suspected hemoparasitosis in the Western region of the state of Santa Catarina. Conventional PCR will be performed for Babesia spp. (18S rRNA gene) and Rangelia vitalii (18S rRNA gene). After diagnosis, the history of the animals and hematological tests will be analyzed to compare findings in blood smears and complete blood counts. It is expected to find clinical cases where one or both pathogens may be involved and to characterize hematological changes in the diseases, enabling clinicians to provide information on the severity of the disease, treatment possibilities, and improvement in the diagnosis of hemoparasitoses.
