SUMMARY:

Avian Reovirus (ARV) is one of the main causes of various pathologies in chickens and responsible for poor performance and silent losses in the poultry industry. They are associated with many diseases and syndromes, such as running and stunting syndrome, respiratory diseases and immunosuppression. In recent years, emerging strains of pathogenic arthrogenic avian reovirus (ARV) have become a challenge for the poultry industry inBrazil, leading to significant economic losses. Chickens are most susceptible to viral infections during the early post-hatch period, therefore, transfer of maternal immunity to embryonated eggs is proven to be an important means of protection against viral infections. Studies show that currently available vaccines are of limited effectiveness, probably due to the existence of many variants. These emerging ARV variants associated with viral arthritis/tenosynovitis are undergoing antigenic changes that may evade immunity induced by commercial vaccine strains. The objective of this study will be to serologically evaluate 7 poultry farms where the breeders received application of the autogenous vaccine and 7 poultry farms without application of the autogenous vaccine. From each flock, 23 sera will be collected on the first day of life, 23 sera at 21 days and 23 sera at 35 days, totaling 966 sera. The serology results will then be correlated with the zootechnical indicators actual hatching rate, mortality rate and arthritis conviction rate in the slaughterhouse.
