SUMMARY:

The transition period is a critical and fundamental moment in the lactation of dairy cows. At this stage, the need to energy for milk production exceeds the capacity to ingest dry matter, and the dairy cow enters a negative energy balance. The most obvious consequence is the increase in lipomobilization and the release of non-esterified fatty acids into the plasma, which, depending on the concentration, can be harmful to the animal's production and health. The objective of our study was to evaluate the effect of non-esterified fatty acid concentrations at parturition in multiparous Jersey dairy cows, and their influence on peripartum metabolism, milk production and quality. Samples of urine, milk, blood and production data were collected from 26 multiparous Jersey cows kept in a semi-extensive system. Urine was collected seven days before the expected birth date to measure urinary pH and observe the efficiency of the pre-delivery diet. Blood samples were taken after the afternoon milking, by puncture of the coccygeal arteriovenous complex, seven days before the expected date of birth and on days 1, 3, 7, 14 and 21 after birth. In serological samples, concentrations of calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), phosphorus (P), beta hydroxy butyrate (BHBA), non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA), aspartate amino transferase (AST), gamma glutaryl transferase (GGT) were analyzed. ), albumin (ALB) and total plasma proteins (PPT). Formulas were used to estimate globulin. Milk samples were collected weekly using an individual collection cup and adjusted for days 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56 after birth and evaluated for somatic cell count (SCC) and chemical composition (fat, protein, lactose, total solids and casein). Zootechnical data on body condition score (BCS) and weight were obtained seven days before the expected date of parturition and on days 1, 3, 7, 14, 21, 30 and 60 days after parturition. Animals will be categorized by median NEFA concentrations at birth. We are currently finalizing the laboratory analyzes to later carry out statistics, using SAS® software and writing the documen.
