SUMMARY:

In the last 50 years, the quest to improve feed conversion efficiency in beef cattle is an essential factor for the production chain. In view of this need, pasture supplementation is one of the strategies used to optimize the production of cattle raised on pasture. There are several types, forms and strategies of supplementation, however, there is a great discrepancy in the results between the studies. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the impact of the supply of supplement on the performance of beef cattle from pasture-finished beef cattle using a systematic review-meta-analysis. A search was carried out for randomized studies that evaluated the population (pasture-raised beef cattle), intervention (supplement) and response (dry matter intake, supplement intake, average daily gain, intake, feed conversion and feed efficiency). The data sources considered were original scientific articles, without year and language restrictions. The search was performed in February 2022 in 3 electronic databases: Scopus (Elsevier), MEDLINE/PubMed and Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics) and 7379 references were found. Subsequently, the references were imported into the Endnote reference manager, in order to find and remove duplicate articles. After removing the duplicates, 5714 articles remained. The articles were exported to the Rayyan tool, to perform the reading of the title, keywords and abstract and selection of articles included, resulting in 50 articles. The remaining 50 articles were extracted and fully read, undergoing a second selection which resulted in 24 articles. For each response variable, information on mean, standard deviation or other dispersion measure, unit of measure, P value and the number of animals in the control groups will be obtained. Data will be submitted to meta-analysis, subgroup, meta-regression and risk of bias analyses. With the accomplishment of the meta-analysis, it is expected to find results that clarify and consolidate the effect of different supplements in beef cattle finished on pasture.
