SUMMARY:

Hernias are failures in the development of swine musculature, it has the shape of a pendulous sac that can have different sizes and be found in both males and females. Hernias that are located in the region of the inguinal rings are called inguinal or scrotal hernias, and those that are located in the umbilical region are called umbilical hernias. Among its main causes are genetic factors, environmental conditions, management of newborn piglets and bacterial infections. Many of these animals end up dying in the growth and finishing phases, since the lesions can break when in contact with the floor of the facilities, however, the vast majority are destined for slaughter in a refrigerator, in this case generating complications during the slaughter process, among others. the main ones are the risk of contamination during evisceration. The objective of this study will be to perform a correlation between pigs that have hernias with the carcasses condemned in the slaughterhouse for contamination or diseases. The study is being carried out in a slaughterhouse, where the relationship of variables will be evaluated: animal weight, hernia diameter, presence of ulcer, presence of adhesion, kilograms condemned by SIF, SIF diagnosis, carcass destination, Salmonella sp., E. coli and Enterobacteriaceae. As a sample, a total of 500 pigs with the presence of hernia will be observed in a period of approximately four months.
