SUMMARY:

This study aimed to evaluate the hemato-immunological parameters and the resistance of Litopenaeus vannamei to white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) challenge associated with heat stress, after feeding diets supplementated with 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4% of Aurantiochytrium sp microalgae. The shrimps were raised in triplicate in 400L tanks, over a period of ten weeks, undersuboptimal temperature (22°C), with 80% daily water renewal. The animals were fed four times a day and the amount of food was calculated by the programmed feed conversion method. For the WSSV challenge, 14 animals per treatment were transferred to 50 L tanks, infected and kept for 108 hat suboptimal temperature (22°C), 12 h of temperature increment to 28 °C (0,5 °C h-1) plus 48 h at optimal temperature (28°C), totaling 7 days. The mortality was monitored every 3 h throughout the entire infection. All levels of Auratiochytrium sp addition had lower mortality during the period under suboptimal temperature. However, at the end of the viral challenge, only the addition of 4% resulted in lower mortality (40%) compared to the control group (61.67%). Therefore, the addition of microalgae improved the shrimp's resistance to the WSSV challenge, when cultivated at a temperature associated with a thermal fluctuation.
