KEY WORDS:

Hemodynamic changes; respiratory changes; tramadol hydrochloride; sedation.

BIG AREA: Ciências Agrárias
AREA: Medicina Veterinária
SUMMARY:

Cats have a peculiar management when compared to dogs, requiring special care, and in this way sedative protocols are performed that can often cause more severe hemodynamic changes. Several studies use the use of dexmedetomidine in felines, however, they did not associate this opioid or evaluate the possible changes and synergism between the drugs. The aim of this study is the use of tramadol hydrochloride at a dose of 2 mg/kg associated or not with dexmedetomidine in cats. The main objective will be to evaluate the sedative and cardiovascular effects of dexmedetomidine and its synergism when associated with tramadol hydrochloride. In the study, 30 healthy cats will be used and will be composed of three groups, composed of 10 animals in each, being group 1: dexmedetomidine alone (10 ug/kg, IM), group 2: dexmedetomidine (10 ug/kg IM) associated with tramadol (2 mg/kg IM), group 3: dexmedetomidine (7 ug/kg IM) associated with tramadol (2 mg/kg IM). Cats will be evaluated at 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 minutes regarding the degree of sedation and physiological parameters, at 10, 30 and 60 minutes they will undergo cardiovascular evaluation. The blood gas analysis, blood glucose and lactate will be repeated at 30 minutes, after the last evaluation, an elective orchiectomy will be performed. Statistical analysis will be a double-blind, prospective randomized clinical trial. The expectation of the result will be that the association of the opioid with dexmedetomidine will potentiate the sedative effects, with minimal effects on cardiovascular parameters, compared to the changes already expected by the isolated use of dexmedetomidine.
