SUMMARY:

The broiler after hatching is not immunocompetent and depends on the transfer of maternal antibodies by the egg to develop protection against pathogens in the first days of life. This is the phase where birds are most susceptible to pathogenic microorganisms, among which are the causes of infectious arthritis, such as avian reovirus. The factors that contribute to the size and content of the yolk sac are already known, but it is not clear how the age of the broiler breeder influences the transfer of immunoglobulins to the egg yolk and, consequently, the concentration of antibodies in the progeny. In this study, the objective is to evaluate the effect of breeder age on immunity and zootechnical performance of broilers and its relationship to the development of rheoviral arthritis. Will be used 3.840 male broilers, Ross 95, from broiler breeders of 29 weeks, 48 weeks, 58 weeks and 64 weeks. The birds will be distributed in 96 boxes, with 40 birds each box, totaling 960 birds for each treatment. Materials will be collected in the treatment groups on day 1, 21 and 42 of age of the broilers, being randomly selected 2 birds each box to determine the immunological profile through the immunocrit technique and ELISA for enzyme immunoassay for reovirus; and 1 bird each box to Real-Time RT-qPCR for reovirus detection; intestinal morphometry and histopathological analysis. The zootechnical performance (average daily gain, feed conversion, mortality rate) of each treatment will also be evaluated. All the results obtained will be compared by means of statistical analyzes and the differences will be considered significant at P≤0.05.
