SUMMARY:

This stage of the work aims to evaluate the use of an acidifier additive based on formic acid and lignosulphonic acid, on the microbiological parameters and quality of nursery water in the production of Nile tilapia. A first step was carried out, with the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) test and evaluation by halo of inhibition, which sought to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the additive against seven different strains of microorganisms: Aeromonas hidrophyla (isolated at Werg, AHW), Staphylococcus aureus (SA), Citrobacter freundii (CF), Aeromonas hydrophila (AH), Aeromonas veronii (AV), Vibrio alginolyticus (VA) and Vibrio parahaemolyticus (VP). The results showed that the product had an inhibitory effect against all tested bacteria. The second stage of the test was based on a dose-response assay, in which bottles containing biofloc matrix water were used. The dosages of the acidifier additive used were 0; 2.5; 5 and 10 ppm. The additive was applied twice within 24 hours. In this step, the alkalinity and pH of the water and the presence of filamentous bacteria were evaluated. There was a significant reduction in the pH of the water with the increment in the evaluated doses of the additive in the two evaluation intervals. No change in alkalinity was observed 24 hours after administration, but 48 hours after administration, there was a reduction with increasing dose. The use of acidifier additive alters the initial microbiological and physicochemical characteristics of the biofloc water.
