SUMMARY:

Femoral head necrosis is present in most broiler flocks, impacting both the farm and the industry, considering some risk factors, as potential for the emergence of injury in broiler chicken, such as a sanitary challenge and poor zootechnical performance .The aim of this study was to quantify the appearance of femoral necrosis lesions in heavy broilers and to analyse which variables associated with the sanity and zootechnical quality of the flocks have the greatest impact on the occurrence of this pathology. The research was developed within the broiler chain, and analyses carried out in the slaughterhouse, in a period of 12 months, by sampling 10 carcasses per batch (total of 254 samples), which had a single breeder origin in their composition. After femoracetabular joint disarticulation, visual inspection and application of a checklist were carried out, giving a score regarding the severity of femoral necrosis lesion found in each carcass (Score 0 - no lesion; Score 1 - mild unilateral or bilateral lesion; Score 2 - severe unilateral necrosis; Score 3 - severe bilateral necrosis). One tissue sample representing each score was collected in formalin solution 10% for illustrative histopathological analysis. At the end of the slaughterhouse data collection, correlation will be performed through multivariate statistical analysis and cluster subdivisions, according to the lesion score, with the variables listed below: evaluations of the checklist of good production practices; risk map applied to breeder and broiler farms; percentage of bacterial contamination of the original broiler farms; sanitary downtime period; and number of broiler recycled litters. The contribution of the work is linked to directing the adoption of preventive measures and the application of good practices through the identification of the main factors of biosecurity and quality of the lots correlated with the presence of femoral head necrosis in different degrees in broiler chicken.
