SUMMARY:

Repeated estrus increases the lactation period, just as there are annual delays between births. This results in economic losses due to lower milk production in lactation and short lifespan of cows and heifers, which leads to early discards and an increase in animals for replacement. Thus, the objective of this work is to determine the main related to estrus repetitions in dairy cattle at farms located in the municipalities of Alpestre, Planalto and Ametista do Sul, in the North region of Rio Grande do Sul. The Holstein animals, Jersey, and mix breed Holstein/Jersey crossbred animals were the guiding factors of this study. They were aged between 2 and 10 years, weighing 340 to 700 kg, presenting more than two repetitions of estrus and not having seasonality as a determining factor. For all properties the diet is similar, being composed of silage, pasture and feed. Retrospective data were collected from 33 animals from 6 farms that had more than two replications of estrus, still missing data from 4 more farms. As a result, statistical analyzes will be performed after the collections are closed. The following variables were analyzed: earring, daily milk production, the number of estrus repetitions, the number of lactations, the number of inseminations, days in lactation, animal weight, animal breed, reproductive problems in previous lactations, if it is pre-delivery or not, how many days pre-delivery was performed, interval between estrus repetitions, seasonality (winter or summer), placental retention, brucellosis vaccine, carbuncle vaccine, reproductive vaccine and in some animals serology for Neospora caninum. After collecting the aforementioned information, a correlation analysis of the variables mentioned will be performed with the estrus repetitions. Promissing results are expected which will allow to determine main factors regarding repeated estrus in cattle. This will reflect on a practical solution, aiming to mitigate early culling and economic losses in dairy farms.
