SUMMARY:

Hantavirus is an emergent zoonosis, occurring worldwide. Due to its rapid evolution and high lethality rate, it is considered a public health problem. In the Americas, Brazil stands out with a high number of cases, with Santa Catarina being the state with the highest number of notifications according to the last survey of the Ministry of Health. The objective of this study is to know the epidemiological profile and geographical distribution of cases of Hantavirus in Santa Catarina in the period from 2009 to 2019 based on the Ministry of Health database. For this purpose, a case series study, descriptive, and a retrospective cohort study, evaluating hospitalization outcomes and death of positive cases of Hantavirus reported in the Notificable Diseases Information System (SINAN) from 2009 to 2019. The variables were analyzed regarding the person, time, place, epidemiological history, symptoms, laboratory results, and therapeutic procedures. For the descriptive study, analyzes of mean, median, proportion, lethality and density of cases were applied, using the software TABWIN and Microsoft Office Excel. In the period from 2009 to 2018, 163 positive cases were reported, with a record of the disease in all regions of the state, with 52% of the total concentrated in the West and Midwest, with Concórdia being the city with the highest number of notifications. The disease showed predominance in adults between 35 and 49 years old, male, from rural areas and low education. The predominant clinical form was Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome, with 96% of the cases confirmed by laboratory criteria. The hospitalization rate was 88%, which 44% required respiratory support. The most frequent symptoms were fever, headache, myalgia, nausea / vomiting, dyspnoea and cough. Lethality during the period was 31%. Statistical analyzes are still being developed. The data from this study will help to understand the behavior of this condition in the population of Santa Catarina state, contributing to the improvement of early diagnosis and enabling the adoption of public health strategies that allow better surveillance of this condition and the reduction of its lethality.
