SUMMARY:

Thermal comfort is directly related to feed intake of females and consequently weight loss and score at this stage, which are essential for prolificacy in the next pregnancies. The main challenge of environments with controlled temperatures in the maternity hospital is the search for maximum balance, zootechnical, economic and animal welfare between two categories of animals, with totally different temperature needs, females and piglets. In the present study, two temperature curves are being evaluated in a controlled ventilation environment, with the possibility of five stages of air speed in the installation with a maximum of 1 m / s, in addition to the use of an evaporative plate. The design was carried out in completely randomized blocks in a contemporary group and divided into two rooms with 108 females each, with three temporal replications totaling 648 evaluated females. The measurement parameters were individual consumption per female, weight of piglets at birth and weaning, weight of females at the entrance and exit of the maternity ward, reproductive performance of the next cycle and ultrasound and caliper measurements, in addition to the consumption of electricity. Its results will be submitted to analysis of variance, with significance P <0.05 for acceptance of difference in results. In the course of the evaluations, the first hypothesis in which the zootechnical results would not present significant differences and the economic results, mainly in the cost of installation and operation of the equipment would present a difference.
