SUMMARY:

We currently live in an extremely digital world. For this reason, we teachers need to understand and learn how to use new digital information and communication technologies. Moreover, we need to be able to create educational situations that promote more student engagement in the same way that, for example, social media do. In short, education, especially school geography education, can be more dynamic, engaging, and exploratory if we stop looking at social media with prejudice and ignorance, highlighting only the problems and dangers they may pose. Thus, we developed the following question-problem: Can we apply the social network TikTok as a didactic resource in teaching Geography in High School classes? In this research, we started from the motivating assumption that Geography at school can and should seek to incorporate these didactic resources in its daily routine. However, in order to be able to scientifically answer the question and have an approximate measure of this possibility, we will first conduct a literature search to gather more information about the importance of different languages and didactic resources in teaching Geography. From this survey, we will analyze the didactic potentialities of using social media in the classroom. In a second moment, we will need to understand what the social network TikTok is, how it works, and why it promotes so intensely the engagement of teenagers and young people. Finally, we will develop, as a final product, a channel focused on teaching Geography using the TikTok social network. The choice of this theme occurs in a context of multiple transformations in society and at school. We live in a world of networks, but many times, we, the teachers, do not know how to act in relation to them and end up excluding the possibility of using them as a didactic resource. What if we reverse the logic? Instead of ignoring them or forbidding their use, we should research ways/strategies for a balanced and critical use of social networks, specifically TikTok, in high school geography classes.
