SUMMARY:

This is a historical-documentary research, supported by a qualitative approach, from the point of view of the History of Education (BARROS, 2015) and Cultural History. It is linked to the research line Formative processes and educational policies of the Graduate Program in Education, master's level, of the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina Campus Camboriú, to the study and research group in education, teacher training and educational processes, (IFC), as well as to the research group and experiences on School Material Culture (UFPR). The problem is presented: How do the architecture and the elements of its composition in the public educational units of Early Childhood Education of the Municipal Education Network of Florianópolis (RMEF), located in the State of Santa Catarina - Brazil enable the understanding of representations of children, childhood and early childhood education socially and historically constructed? The main objective is to analyze how the architecture and the elements of its composition in the public educational units of Early Childhood Education of the Municipal Education Network of Florianópolis (RMEF), located in the State of Santa Catarina - Brazil enable the understanding of representations of children, childhood and Early Childhood Education socially and historically constructed. The theoretical-methodological path chosen mobilizes the concept of representation proposed by Chartier (1989; 1991; 2009) and the contributions brought by the French revolution of historiography and spread by the Annales movement; mobilizes the concept of school architectural structures, proposed by Frago and Escolano (1998) and Bencostta (2001); in the perspective of understanding photographs as language, with image/text value, and perceiving them as sources of research, it presents the theories of Kossoy (2014) and Bencostta (2011); highlights the specificities of Early Childhood Education, based on the Pedagogy of Childhood, problematized by Ostetto (2000) and Rocha (2000); when referring to the materialities, it dialogues with the theoretical framework arising from the studies on the school material culture (PERES; SOUZA, 2011; SOUZA, 2007; SOUZA; Smith, 2019; VIDAL; SILVA, 2011) based on the concepts of ruptures and permanences of a school form (VICENTE, LAHIRE, THIN, 2001); seeks to perform descriptive and interpretative analyses according to the perspective of Stake (2011). Through the ethnography of archives (COSTA, 2010), (CUNHA, 2009) and through the lens of "micro history", it is intended to carry out a descriptive and interpretative analysis of printed and iconographic documents, and hoping as a result to resume the history of the Municipal Education Network of Florianópolis with regard to the first stage of Basic Education, analyzing its ruptures and permanences and how it has been constituted, immersed in the most diverse historical-social fluctuations, perceiving how architectural materialities can enable the understanding of representations of children, childhood and early childhood education. Through preliminary analyses of iconographic documentary records, we consider that the architectural characteristics of educational spaces are not only related to aesthetic issues or structural functionalities, but, above all, to the conceptions of its protagonists, being even expressed in the way the subjects make use of the architectural structures and their materialities.
