SUMMARY:

Brazil is a country composed of a mostly black population. Even so, for a long time, Eurocentric teaching prevailed that made the other cultural matrices that characterize us as Brazilian people invisible. Law 10.639/03 was approved to change this situation so that our students know our origins and feel that they belong to the people and history. However, in Santa Catarina, we saw an increase in racial slurs and neo-Nazi cell cases, which leads us to ask whether students have appropriated the contents recommended in Law 10.639/03. This research aims to analyze which knowledge is produced through Law 10.639/03 by 3rdyear high school students from state schools in Camboriú, to understand how they can become instruments of social transformation and overcoming racism. State schools in the municipality of Camboriú constitute the empirical field of this research. The subjects chosen will be students in the third year of high school, as they have access to all the content proposed in the curriculum guidelines, including African history and Afro-Brazilian culture. For data collection, we will use questionnaires structured in thematic blocks with questions based on the National Curriculum Guidelines for Education of Ethnic-Racial Relations and Teaching of Afro-Brazilians and African History and Culture. From the theoretical-methodological point of view, this research is intended to be based on the focus of the historical-dialectical materialist method, by understanding that reality is in constant development and transformation and that the object is constituted from multiple determinations. We start, therefore, from the hypothesis that the Afro-Brazilian culture in the region has been made invisible by European heritage and tradition. In addition, the non-discussion in the academy and consequently in schools may reflect the constant racist and neo-Nazi practices in our state
