Education is a central aspect for the development of a country and for solving its ills. In this struggle, sometimes ideological, of the way society educates its people, there is a key figure who can act as resistance or perpetuator of social “diseases” related to education: the teacher. In view of this, this research developed in the Postgraduate Program in Education, of the Instituto Federal Catarinense – Campus Camboriú, proposed to analyze the formative processes for literacy and literacy in the perception of academics of the Degree in Pedagogy courses of the Instituto Federal Catarinense/IFC , Abelardo Luz, Blumenau, Camboriú, Rio do Sul and Videira campuses, between 2015 and 2021, bringing to light current public policies that should prioritize the quality of teaching as a result of quality in teacher training. Covering teacher and literacy teacher training, this research strives to know how the training of IFC teachers and teachers occurs and how this institution contributes to the appropriation, be it theory or practice, so that future students teachers are able to teach literacy and develop literacy in their pedagogical practices. With the support of a qualitative approach, with interpretative characteristics. We carried out a bibliographic survey that allowed us to analyze knowledge already registered by other researchers based on the selected theme. As a data collection instrument, we developed and applied a questionnaire, carried out through Google Form. This questionnaire was made available to academics, initially by email via the internet and later through the messaging application, WhatsApp. The questionnaires were returned in the same way they were sent, by email and through the application. Authors such as Saviani (2009), Teixeira (1958), Soares (1995; 2020; 2021), Ferreiro (1986), Lebaron (2017), Martins Filho (2009; 2018), Paim (2017; 2017) and other researchers contributed to the development of the theoretical contributions that support this proposal. The research, even if in a partial state, shows that, in addition to initial teacher training, training is a necessary condition, however, it is not enough to train literacy teachers. It is essential to consider that literacy is an act of building citizenship, a political act, beyond the development of contents and methods.
