SUMMARY:

The present ongoing research is developed from the rural school theme and the possibility of overcoming it and creating a rural education. The work is related to the research line "Formative Processes and Educational Policies" of the Graduate Program in Education of the Instituto Federal Catarinense. As a problematization of the research, it is questioned if rural schools articulate in their practices means for the constitution of the proposal of a rural education The objective is to investigate if rural schools articulate in their practices the means for the constitution of a rural education proposal; identifying the historical ruptures experienced by rural schools, pointing out possible unfoldings for their permanence, understanding their social function for the representation of the living community and enunciating the possibilities of resignification the rural schools that integrate the Médio Vale do Itajaí for the establishment of a rural education. The proposal of a rural education is essential for the subjects that constitute it, considering and integrating in its practices their values, knowledge, experientes, and interests, in accordance with the specificities of the local context. With a qualitative character, the field study was adopted as the methodology to be used, and for the study of the information obtained, a content analysis proposed by Bardin (2011) will be carried out. In order to delimit the universe of the research and consider the different perspectives, the research was linked to the cities of the Médio Vale do Itajaí, in Santa Catarina. From the survey of schools that integrate this environment, it was observed that rural schools are still a predominant conception in this area. The state of knowledge found that despite the criticism on the elitized practices of rural schools, there is the need to enhance them beyond comparative analyses. The provisional conclusions demonstrate the need to discuss a specific curriculum for rural education, contemplating its multiple aspects and recognizing its knowledge, in order to oppose the homogenization of education seen as dominant. With the continuity of the research, it is expected the understanding of the ways of overcoming the rural school and their search for changes in order to represent the knowledge of the countryside, contributing so that their practices are reflected in the living reality.
