SUMMARY:

This study is inserted in the field of cultural history and the history of education, more specifically in the history of the Municipal Education Network of Florianópolis between 1996 and 2020 through public policies for Early Childhood Education. The main objective of the research is to perceive, from the chosen sources, the curriculum representations for this stage of Basic Education in conjunction with material culture. Thus, we seek to answer the following question: how material culture enables the understanding of curriculum representation for Early Childhood Education based on guiding and curricular documents from the Municipal Education Network of Florianópolis from 1996 to 2020, aimed at this level of teaching? The sources taken for the research are the twelve curricular and guiding documents published in the chosen period that reveal the pedagogical proposals for actions with children in the Early Childhood Education units; aspects of the history of constitution of the Municipal Education Network; relevant legislation; messages from mayors, secretaries of education, heads and directors of Basic Education or Early Childhood Education; experience reports; synthesis of reflections and discussion carried out in formations; conference texts. Thus, in relation to the methodological bases, the analysis of eleven printed documents and one in digital format are privileged; and the iconographic sources, present in this set of documents. The delimited time frame considers the context, object and sources of the research. As a starting point, it takes the publication of the document Translating into actions: from guidelines to a curricular proposal – Infant Education (FLORIANÓPOLIS, 1996), the same year of publication at the national level of the Law of Guidelines and Bases for National Education (BRASIL, 1996); and finally, the publication of the document: Common National Curriculum Base and Municipal Curriculum Documents for Early Childhood Education in Florianópolis: Curriculum Recontextualization (FLORIANÓPOLIS, 2020), complying with what is determined at the national level by Resolution CNE/CPnº2 of 2017 (BRASIL, 2017) , which states in its art. 5, that municipalities should review their curricula having the Common National Curriculum Base (BRASIL, 2017) as a national reference.
