SUMMARY:

There is a trend of an increase in life expectancy in Brazilian demographics due to advances in medicine, public health, an increase in living conditions, etc. Individuals more than 60 years of age are currently defined as older adults/seniors. The aim of the present ongoing qualitative, reflective, descriptive study linked to the “Educative Process and Inclusion” line of research of the Master’s program was to analyze the perceptions of participants of the Senior Study Center of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, considering the discussion on education throughout life, inclusion and aging. The participants will be older adults enrolled at the Senior Study Center, which had 1058 enrollments in presential courses in 2019. To maintain contact with the participants during the COVID-19 pandemic, the institution created 29 social media (WhatsApp) groups corresponding to all classes and courses. Data collection was performed with the aid of a semi-structured electronic questionnaire created in Google Forms and an explanatory video. A pilot test is currently ongoing with the Gerontological Action Monitors, composed of nine members, to which the video and questionnaire were sent. There have been two responses so far. The analytical process will involve content analysis (BARDIN, 2010). The theoretical reference is based on a bibliographic survey as well as the analysis of theses and dissertations available on the CAPES and IBICT platforms of the Postgraduate Programs in Education. Studies published to date indicate that universities open to seniors offer educational opportunities and ways to transform negative stereotypes if there is an understanding of inclusion as a right and duty.
